Dedicated developer pods

Hire a dedicated software development team

A small senior pod joins your workflow on a monthly retainer. Typically a tech lead, full-stack engineers and QA, working in your repository and your tools.

  • About 160 senior hours per month
  • Typically $8,500 to $14,000 per month
  • You own the code and accounts

What is a dedicated developer pod?

A pod is a small team that works on your product for a monthly fee instead of a per-project price. It suits companies that have a continuing roadmap but do not want to hire, onboard and manage several full-time engineers.

A typical pod is a tech lead, two full-stack engineers and a QA specialist, shaped to your project. The tech lead owns architecture and code review and acts as your day-to-day contact. The pod works in your repository, your issue tracker and your chat, so it feels like part of your team rather than a vendor behind a wall.

What does the retainer include?

The typical retainer is about 160 hours of senior engineering output per month, for a typical range of $8,500 to $14,000 per month. Where you land in that range depends on the size of the pod, the stack and the seniority you need.

  • Planning and estimation each sprint, with a short written summary.
  • Code written, reviewed and tested before it merges.
  • A working build to look at at the end of each sprint.
  • Access to the pod through a shared chat channel on Telegram or Slack, and a GitHub repository in your organization.

A written quote follows a scoping conversation. See pricing for the other engagement models.

When does a pod make more sense than a fixed-scope project?

Choose a fixed-scope project when you can describe the finished product, for example an MVP sprint. Choose a pod when the scope will keep moving: a live SaaS product with a long backlog, a platform that needs ongoing maintenance, or a modernization effort that will take many months.

Many clients start with a fixed-scope build and move to a pod for the months after launch. That keeps knowledge of the code in the same hands.

You set the priorities and we handle the engineering decisions. A short planning call opens each sprint, you see working software at the end, and the tech lead flags trade-offs in plain language. Non-technical founders can use this setup, as long as someone on your side can make product decisions quickly. Our delivery process and tech stack pages explain how the work runs and what we use.

What are the limits of the pod model?

A pod gives you capacity and senior judgment, not a promised amount of finished features. Output depends on how clear your priorities are and how fast your team gives feedback. Hours are a measure of effort, not of results, and we do not promise a launch date, user growth or revenue.

A pod is also not a fit for a one-off task that a short project can finish. If a pod is more than you need, we will say so.

Questions about custom software builders in United States

How quickly can a pod start?

That depends on the scope and on whom we need to bring together for your stack. After a scoping conversation we give you a written start date together with the quote. We would rather give an honest date than a fast one that slips.

Can the pod work inside our own tools?

Yes. We work in your GitHub or GitLab organization, your issue tracker and your Slack or Telegram. You keep admin access to everything, and we do not move your work into private systems of ours. If you would rather use a tool you already pay for, we adapt to it instead of asking you to change.

Can we change the size of the pod later?

Yes. As the roadmap changes you can ask to add or remove a role, or pause the retainer, within the notice terms agreed in the written quote. Changing the team changes the monthly price, and we confirm that before the change.

Do we own the code the pod writes?

Yes. The code lives in your repository, the cloud and provider accounts are yours, and credentials stay in your name from the first day. There is no code held back on our side. We also sign an NDA on request before we see anything sensitive.

How is a pod different from hiring freelancers?

Questions worth asking any provider: who reviews the code, who is responsible if someone leaves, and who manages the work. In a pod, the tech lead reviews every change and carries the architecture, and QA tests before release. A freelancer can be a fine choice for a small, clear task.
